LOSC Lille vs Stade Brestois 29 kicks off at 19:45 [GMT+1] on Saturday, October 17, at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Lille [DWWLW] have made an impressive start to the domestic campaign, collecting 13 points [4W, 1D, 1L] from their opening six matches to sit second in the standings, just one point behind leaders Monaco. However, their momentum suffered a significant setback on Tuesday, when they slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League, their joint-heaviest loss in more than four years. Nevertheless, LOSC supporters can take comfort from the fact that their side have not suffered consecutive defeats since January. They will expect a response here as the hosts pursue their fifth league victory of the season, having most recently edged bottom-placed Le Havre 1-0. Their defensive solidity has been central to that strong start, with Davide Ancelotti’s side boasting four clean sheets, more than any other side in the division. Les Dogues have also remained unbeaten at home in the league this term [2W, 1D, 0L], making Stade Pierre-Mauroy an increasingly difficult venue for visiting teams. LOSC have also enjoyed a favourable recent record against Brest, losing just one of their last eight head-to-head meetings [3W, 4D, 1L]. Both encounters last season ended in draws, suggesting another closely contested affair could be on the cards. Ayase Ueda was forced off injured against Arsenal, while Tiago Santos remains sidelined for several months. Ethan Mbappé is recuperating from an injury suffered during an international assignment. A 4—2—3—1 setup with Olivier Giroud leading their charge in the final third is expected against Les Pirates.

Meanwhile, Brest [DWLLW] arrive in northern France with renewed confidence after producing their joint-biggest victory in nearly seven years, thrashing Angers 5-1 last weekend to move to seventh with eight points [2W, 2D, 2L]. That’s their best league return at this stage in three seasons, as the emphatic result provided the perfect response to consecutive defeats before the international break. However, there are reasons to remain cautious about their early progress. Five of Brest’s six opponents so far began this round in the bottom half of the table, meaning the challenge posed by one of Ligue 1’s leading sides represents a significant step up. Their away form is another concern, with just one victory across their last eight road matches [1W, 2D, 5L]. Mama Baldé was withdrawn during the win over Angers, leaving his availability worth monitoring ahead of this trip. Julien Lachuer may employ a 4—2—3—1 formation with Ludovic Ajorque starting upfront against Les Dogues.
